Cool Storm

Just a shorty post to show you the cool show we got outside our living room window last night.  It was lightning that was lighting up the whole sky, but it was behind these clouds.  Looks like a big cauldron in the sky.

I was only able to catch it with the camera on my mobile phone, so the picture quality is not great.  But talk about a cool storm.  Amazing thing was there was very little thunder and no rain.  Almost like somebody was up there with the dry ice machine and concert lights, getting ready for the show.

Our Home Away From Home

The Jewetts have landed.  After an exhausting month’s search for a condo, followed by a month of “Holy cripes—this is really happening,” we have moved in, settled down, and kicked back.  Take a gander.

Our one main living area.  The dining area and living room are one big rectangle, and we scored two sweet 80’s navy blue leather sofas and glass-top-over-black-wood coffee/end tables as part of the condo rental.   It’s thrilling to know that Miami Vice is still alive and well.  At the back of the right photo (above), Jackson’s room veers off to the left, and Cameron’s to the right.  The kitchen is the second door from the back on the right, followed by a powder room ,and the master bedroom is behind the sofa.  Ta-dum.

The view looking straight out from our “foot balcony.”  Yup, a foot balcony.  It’s about 12 inches wide, and just big enough to fit your foot.  Fairly funnyla, no?

The view looking straight down four floors (we’re on the top floor)—the pool, a cold tub (c’mon, nobody HOT tubs in 90 degrees!), and off to the left of the jacuzzi is a stream and a playground (not visible in the photos…).

Our galley kitchen.  It’s narrow, it’s insanely hot (no air conditioning in Singapore kitchens, folks), and it also serves as laundry room.  Like all Singapore kitchens, there is also a small closet at the back that would serve as the maid’s bedroom (which we have chosen to use as storage, thank you very much), and a small bathroom.

Cameron’s room and Jackson’s room, which are separated by a Jack-and-Jill (connecting) bathroom.   Funny—it didn’t take any time at all to remember to lock both doors when one needs privacy…

The only view I could really get of the master bedroom (it’s actually much bigger than it looks here).  It has the same view as the foot balcony, and has an attached bathroom complete with a big ol’ jacuzzi tub (Jackson digs it—more swimming options, ya know?).  Singapore condos were definitely geared toward pampering the parents…  Well, guess you’ll have to come see it to really tell…

My pathetic attempt at photographing a typical Singapore storm from our living room window.  Lightening booms like it’s just hit directly overhead (and probably has), and thunder rolls so long and loud that your body feels the vibrations to the core.  We looooove these storms, which typically happen once every couple of days, and last only about half an hour.  Then, the sun comes out brighter than ever, and we proceed to melt into the few puddles left on the sidewalk.  We’re looking forward to monsoon season (November-January).

For jolly fun, we sometimes rearrange the furniture in order to practice building barricades and destroying our neighbors with dart guns.   We’re wondering if living in closer quarters brings out a different side in us….

Our first visitor—our amazing friend Tim!  We were so happy to see him, and no, not just because he brought gum and Sees chocolates.  We are thrilled he’ll be coming back again in November and December (thanks, Boeing!).

Wanna jump on a plane and visit, or just send us something in the mail (we love postcards and letters!)?  Here’s where you can find us:

The Jewetts, 3 Farrer Drive, #04-03, Sommerville Grandeur Condos, Singapore, 259276.

You’re invited—c’mon over!  We’ve got room, and you may never get another chance.   COME VISIT US!

Peace out–Kirsten
